I mean, not really, since I haven’t heard anyone refer to our modern decade that way… but they will. We just have to let it age a little. The Roaring 20s were obviously a whole different thing, seeing as how it was in the 1900s. And oh what a time it was. Full of fun, prosperity, and some really interesting fashion trends, it’s easy to see why this decade was referred to as roaring. The music was loud, the clothes were flashy, and the world saw some serious advances in technology during this time. There’s no arguing that the dames and fellas embraced the times, and had a lot of fun doing it. And now your Sim can live their best flapper or cool cat life, thanks to this collection of incredible ‘20s stuff from some very talented CC makers.
1. Cloche Hat Set
Check Out This CC For both dames and fellas in the ‘20s, hats were the bee’s knees. I swear I won’t talk like this the whole time. But I had to get it out of my system. Well this hat set is specifically for the ladies, and offer very common styles you’ve probably seen before. These must have been the most beloved hats back then, since it seems it’s what the gals are wearing in anything set in the 1920s – which makes it perfect if that’s what you want for your Sims! There are two styles here: one with a slightly curled brim, and one with that’s flat all around. Both come in a variety of period-appropriate colors.
2. The Moll’s Coat
Check Out This CC In the Roaring 20s, gangsters ruled. But being a gangster’s gal, or “moll” certainly had its perks as well. When your husband can get anything he wants, do anything he wants, and has a ton of money, well… life is pretty cool. Except for all of the violence and constant threat of jail time, but we’ll just focus on the glamorous stuff because that’s a lot more fun. A nice fur coat was the height of style and ritz, and a clear sign of one’s prominence. You wouldn’t want to mess with a lady wearing a coat like this – especially if there was a dude wearing a fedora next to her. This CC offers really a beautiful design to match the era, with furry cuffs and a pin on the collar.
3. 1920s Lace Dress
Check Out This CC A fur coat wasn’t everyday fashion for everyone back then. And this lace dress is a simpler, more humble design that women of all ages would love. As you can expect for any clothes from this era, it’s a rather modest dress, covering from the wrists to almost the ankles. But the lacy design really is lovely. And it comes with 8 swatches, so there are plenty of options for you to enjoy the best of the color palette the 20s had to offer. There were no neon clothes back then, but there’s a certain charm to the neutral & warm tones that most clothes had.
4. 1920s Shoes CC
Check Out This CC It’s pretty obvious you’ll need some new shoes if you’re making a 20s Sim – because sneakers won’t cut it! These custom shoes may look incredibly uncomfortable, but hey, this was indeed the style. Chunky toes, pointy heels, and a strap to keep them on is all you need! I don’t know how people managed back then, but this is what women wore all day, every day. So just plop a pair on your Sim and she won’t look a bit out of place.
5. Obile’s Fashion Set
Check Out This CC Now we’re onto a set for the guys. As you may have noticed through old pictures, they didn’t have a whole lot of options in the ‘20s. A suit was the go-to thing every day, for every occasion, from fancy dinners to a picnic in the park. All of the suit options we have right now are pretty modern – and yes, there is a difference! This suit CC from Lonelyboy perfects the vintage look you’ll want with a simple, slimming, buttoned jacket. Plus, you get a classic bowler hat as well! These go together like peaches and cream, and your Sim will look just spiffy. Okay, I guess the old-timey talk wasn’t out of my system. But why was there so much slang!?
6. Adaline Headband
Check Out This CC With a decade as flashy as this one, it makes perfect sense that women would wear jeweled headbands. This custom hat comes with options to be categorized as either a hat or bracelet. But either way, it will still sit pretty on your Sim’s head. It’s not hard to understand why these were popular. Clearly, accessories were appreciated back then. And a headband is a fun alternative to a hat.
7. Flapper Fabulous Hair + Accessory
Check Out This CC You just can’t talk about the Roaring 20s without bringing up Flappers. They were the rebels of their time, shunning many sexist standards. Flappers weren’t afraid to live their own life or party, and dared to wear knee-length skirts and bob their hair. That’s what you’ll get here – the hair part, anyway. This is an iconic Flapper ‘do, featuring short and compact waves. You also get an accessory here, and a pretty saucy one at that. It has an ornate design, plus beaded accents. It’s like the 1920s American version of a tiara, and it was normal to wear all of the time!
8. Five Colors Suits
Check Out This CC This base game TS4 suit has always been okay if you want to make some vintage-looking dudes, except for the colors. Well, that’s a worry of the past now thanks to this Simmer. In this set you’ll find five newly-added colors. And all of them look as you would expect a ‘20s suit to look. At least I think this is how it looks? I’m not sure that I have ever seen anything from the 1920s in color. But I’ll trust this creator, because browns, yellows, and grays seem about right.
9. Gillian Hairstyle
Check Out This CC It’s safe to say that hairstyles have changed quite a bit in the past century. You won’t find guys back then with man buns any more than you’ll find guys now trying to make their hair super shiny. Most ‘20s cats wore a hat most of the time anyway. But they had to take it off sometime. And when they did, this cut from Birksches is a good example of what you might find. This is a thicker style, and a little tall, especially fitting for young men.
10. Slicked Back Hair
Check Out This CC Back in the day, it was important to not have a hair out of place. Word might get around that you’re a little funny. Ya know, screwy… aka crazy. Because a disheveled appearance can’t possibly mean anything else. Only degenerates dare go out without perfectly coiffed hair, their best hat, and a freshly ironed suit. It’s harsh, and doesn’t apply today, but a good rule of thumb to keep in mind when creating Sims from other eras. This custom hair is very neat, and will keep your Sim looking like they’re fresh from the barber shop. Nobody will be side-eyeing them or questioning their sanity.
11. Androgynous Swimsuits
Check Out This CC No matter the century, no matter the age, people love to go swimming. Spending the day splashing around in the water is fun for all ages, and can be pretty soothing as well. We sometimes think of folks from the past as uptight. But they still sought ways to entertain themselves, just as we do. These swimsuits are quite accurate for the time, just the style you would have been for both men and women in the late ‘20s. I think we’ve all seen these striped suits before, and now you can actually put them into action. Both come with a belt, and there’s even an option for children as well!
12. Vintage Gas Cooker
Check Out This CC A lot of good it’ll do if your Sim is perfectly dressed for the Roaring 20s but still has a totally modern house, right? Those stoves we have now definitely won’t do. You’ll need something that reflects the times, and this CC is just the thing. It’s a large gas stove with a cooktop and ovens. You just know it’s sturdy as heck, too. And honestly, I find this more pleasing to the eye than modern ones! Why can’t our stoves now have legs, hmm? There are 19 swatches available here, so you can match it (or not) to the rest of your kitchen.
13. Drainboard Sinks
Check Out This CC Funnily enough, our sink designs haven’t changed all that much in the past 100 years. You still just get a basin with a spout and knobs. This CC definitely does have a vintage feel, however. And there’s no doubt that it’s authentically ‘20s. It’s a wide design, much like the stove. I guess they didn’t appreciate the needs of minimalism or tiny homes back then. The cool thing about this sink is that it even has slots, so you can decorate it as part of the kitchen in its own right. Soap, dish rack, paper towels – they no longer have to be scattered senselessly across a bunch of counters.
14. Functional Gramophone
Check Out This CC Music is also something that has stood the test of time. It has taken many forms, and one of the oldest yet still recognizable is the gramophone. The design almost looks like something Dr.Seuss would invent, with that horn-like thing attached to the rest of the device by a much narrower part. This was how people enjoyed music in their homes, as well as public dances… at least I assume so. There were no bluetooth speakers and amps back then, so records it was!
15. Industrial Bar Drink Bottles
Check Out This CC Just because alcohol was illegal, that certainly didn’t mean people were going to stop drinking. They just either made their own or enlisted the help of bootleggers – quietly. You don’t want the fuzz to know what you’re up to. Alcohol was still a huge part of American leisure and culture, so you might want to reflect that in your game. With these decorative bar bottles, you can create a speakeasy in The Sims 4 and be the envy of the town. Most of these bottles do have an old-timey look, and they’re in Simlish, so you can pretend it’s anything you want. Unless you can read Simlish, in which case… that’s amazing. But just pretend.
16. Wardrobe Trunks
Check Out This CC I’m not sure what it is about trunks like this that feel so firmly Roaring 20s, but it’s definitely there. Perhaps it comes from the rise of vaudeville and motion pictures – lots of people were looking to make a living acting and entertaining, and that required a lot of hard travel. Not only will these trunks just look right at home in your Sim’s house, but they’re functional as dressers as well! And there’s a separate option for some simple accent tables, in case you do want a strictly decorative trunk.
17. Art Deco Entry
Check Out This CC The loud and ornate Art Deco style was at its height through the Roaring 20s. So this entryway set will not look a bit out of place. It’s like a starter kit for getting your Sim’s home on the right track, including very unique chairs, mirrors, tables, and rugs. Any Sim will feel welcomed by such striking interior design. The leaf-like chair backs are especially nice, in my opinion.
18. Fancy Antique Lamp
Check Out This CC Everything from the 1920s looks fancy and antique now. So you’ll need lots of items that fit that description to properly furnish your Sim’s home. This custom lamp, converted from The Sims 3, looks awesome and offers a notably different style than almost any of the lamps we currently have. In other words, it looks very old. But that’s what you’ll want! It has an elaborate shade with some frills, and comes in 33 swatches.
19. Antique Slipper Chair
Check Out This CC Money went a long way a century ago. And any senior will tell you craftsmanship was better. You got more bang for your buck, and things last longer… or so I’ve heard. So a refined, luxurious chair such as this wouldn’t even have been uncommon. It’s a gorgeous piece, with ruffling around the bottom and a gold-hued frame. There are several rich swatches too, and most of these chairs also have a subtle yet bold pattern of some sort.
20. Sea Princess Secretary Desk
Check Out This CC Linzlu’s custom content never ceases to amaze me. This is the same Simmer who brought us the beautiful vintage stove and sink mentioned earlier, and this desk is equally breathtaking. The wood design truly is gorgeous, and this totally feels like an antique. But the best part is that it functions as a desk! This is perfect for an era where letter writing was huge, and just about everything was done on pencil and paper. There are even some decorative slots and books already in the hutch portion, so this desk will be an excellent addition to any den or study.
