In this article, I’m referring to Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn, in which Shaquille O’Neal will be making a comeback (eventually).
The New
The game Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn has been in the works since 2015. Want to know what the gameplay is about? Check out the trailer below:
There isn’t much news regarding this new Shaq game, but Nintendo Everything tells us that they’re, “unsure if Shaq-Fu: A Legend Reborn is still planned for Wii U, but now that Switch has arrived, it wouldn’t be surprising to hear about its cancellation.”
This means that we may be seeing Shaq on the screen of the Switch. Only time will tell.
The Old
Originally released in 1994 for the Genesis and Super NES, Shaq Fu was another iteration in the already flooded fighting game market of the early 90s.
The game was ported to the Game Gear, Game Boy, and Amiga platforms in 1995.
The storyline for Shaq Fu was what some would call simple. Shaquille O’Neal is on his way to a charity basketball game in Tokyo, Japan. On his way there, he stops into a dojo. He speaks to a martial arts master named Leotsu, and somehow is transported to another dimension known as the Second World. There, he must rescue a child named Nezu from the evil mummy Sett Ra.
Shaq Fu was, apparently, not forgotten.
The Reception
The original Shaq Fu game was considered to be one of the worst video games in history. One could speculate that this reputation could follow the Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn.
Of course, we will have to wait until the release of the game to find out if one will affect the other.
Do you think that the new rendition of Shaq Fu will do well? Or will it follow in the steps of its predecessor?
